BLUFF is the project of four young jazz musicians based in Hamburg. The quartet aligns its compass with the young New York scene and incorporates these inspirations into its own music. Role models such as Ambrose Akinmusire and Immanuel Wilkins can clearly be found in the compositions of BLUFF.
The four musicians understand each other blindly, so that the music forms itself almost by itself: Starting with the melody, they break out into remarkable dynamic arcs and yet always find their way back to the refined simplicity of their own musical style. The band exudes a joy of playing on stage that spreads to the audience. In just under three years as a permanent formation, BLUFF has already been on tour throughout Germany and has performed at the Elbjazz and JazzBaltica festivals, among others. The band recorded their debut album at the renowned Bauer Studios last year, which they brought with them on CD.
”The new album is full of surprises, with clever compositions and arrangements, great dynamics and, above all, interpreted very well by everyone. The musicians present a musical kaleidoscope on this album that is a pleasure to listen to often. BLUFF is part of our future, right now.” – Nils Landgren
